A lot has been happening with the Elgin’s over the past few months. I (Charley) contracted malaria the end of October and was down for nearly a month. I seem to be back up to speed .. mostly, but have had a problem lately with remembering where I put my keys. I blame that on the Malaria, but I think Martie is thinking that excuse is getting a little thin.
Jessica has moved back to the States. She is enrolled in a Christian School in Dothan, Alabama as a second semester Junior. She has been with us on the mission field for 6 years. We wanted her to get ready for college and to readjust to life in the USA before that happens. She is living with our oldest daughter and will finish high school there.
As you may know, we have stepped away from directing the orphanage. God brought a wonderful couple, Ken and Maria Peters to replace Martie and me. Now, we are focusing totally on 5 schools with about 65 staff and 750 students, preaching at churches and crusades, teaching, and discipling young Haitian men and women. Pastor Doug Moyer, from Northern California has been with us for a month helping to get the little rental house ready for us .. [we moved in on the 1st of January and have been getting the last three cottages at Espwa Timoun prepped for the construction teams.]
Each school has constructed a cistern as part of our clean water initiative for the students. We recently received a commitment to send 455 additional cases of food for the students. That is the equivalent of 65,500 meals. About one half of a year’s requirement for 750 students. God Provides.
