Andy and Tanya Birchfield
Andy grew up at the Alabama Sheriff’s Boys Ranch with his parents first being house parents and then appointed as director. Andy attended Samford University located in Birmingham, Alabama, and Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama. He is a lawyer practicing with Beasley Allen law firm in Montgomery. Tanya holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama and has experience working with children and families of children who have been victims of abuse and neglect. The adoption of their daughter, Hope, from Moldova resulted in a passion and a burden for reaching out to orphans locally as well as internationally. They have five children and are active members of First Baptist Church, Montgomery.
Board of Directors:
Barry is the president of The Baptist Foundation of Alabama. He has held this title since 2001. Previously, he held positions with Regions Bank Trust Company, private practice, and as a trial attorney with the IRS. He received a Juris Doctorate from Cumberland Law School in Birmingham, Alabama. He and wife, Judy, are very involved in First Baptist Church, Montgomery. Barry serves as a deacon, choir member, and in other leadership roles. Barry and Judy have three grown sons and are proud grandparents as well.
Chip Colee is Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama, where he has served since 2004. Previously, he was Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Decatur, Alabama, where he served from 1995-2004. Chip attended Samford University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has a Ph.D. in Leadership from Tennessee Temple University. He is married to Christy who teaches high school English and journalism at Trinity Presbyterian School. They have two children, Christopher and Caroline.
Donna Conte received a BS in Accounting from the University of North Alabama. She received her CPA certification in 1991. Other honors and certifications include AICPA and ASCPA. Donna and her husband, Jesse, have three boys and have been members of First Baptist Church, Montgomery since 2004. Her family is very involved in many different aspects of our church including teaching in our student ministry. Donna is employed with the accounting firm Warren Averett. Donna works very closely with our bookkeeper and accountant in serving as our ministry’s treasurer.
Mark Corzine and his wife, Emily, have three children and are active members of First Baptist Church, Decatur. He has served in various ministries, including being a deacon, Sunday School teacher, missions team member, and First Impressions team coordinator. Mark has been on and led several trips to Children’s Hope in Jacmel, Haiti and has a passion to spread the gospel. Mark received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and works for Primetals Technologies, LLC.
Brian Gay serves as the minister of missions at First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Brian is married to Kristi, and they have three children- Andrew, Eden, and Matthew. Brian is a graduate of Samford University and has a Master of Arts in Missiology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Brian currently serves on the Board for The Community of Hope in Montgomery. He has a passion for making disciples of Christ in Montgomery and to the ends of the earth.
Neal Hughes is the Director of Missions of the Montgomery Baptist Association. He recently returned to the River Region, having served as the South Region Director of the North American Mission Board for the past eleven years. Prior to Neal’s service with NAMB, he served as Pastor in Montgomery, Birmingham and Weatherford, Texas. Neal is a graduate of Samford University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Mary, have three grown children living in Florida, Georgia and Hawaii.
Nathan is the Investment Officer at The Baptist Foundation of Alabama which manages in excess of $250 million dollars in gifts, endowments, scholarships and trusts placed by faithful Alabama Baptists leaving a legacy of giving to their desired donors. Nathan is a graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University. He graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and minored in Finance. After college, Nathan spent four years as an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed Martin and five years with Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. Nathan began working with The Baptist Foundation of Alabama as their Investment Officer in early 2010. Nathan is a deacon at First Baptist Church Montgomery, sits on the Finance Committee and teaches Sunday School. Nathan and Caron, his wife, along with their four children, live in Montgomery, Alabama.
Tom graduated from the University of alabama with a degree in Corporate Finance in the Business School. He then earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL, in 1998 and began his leagal career at Beasley Allen that same year. Tom is a national spokesman for the rights of consumers and the law that applies to their rights. In 2002 Tom was selected by the National Law Journal as one of the Top 40 Litigators in the country under the age of 40.
Leigh O’Dell is an attorney with Beasley Allen. In addition to practicing law, Leigh served in full-time ministry for eight years, first with Focus on the Family and then AnGeL Ministries. Leigh is a graduate of Auburn University where she earned a degree in accounting and the University of Alabama School of Law. She is a member of Gateway Baptist Church. Leigh is the proud aunt of sixteen nieces and nephews and lives in Montgomery, Alabama.
Susan P. West was born in Lanett, Alabama. She has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy State University. She received a master’s degree from Auburn University. Susan taught first grade and kindergarten for 26 years. She taught preschoolers in Sunday School and now teaches ESL classes Sunday mornings with the Bible as the textbook to international adults. Susan is a Mentor Mom for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) organization. She serves as Director of Conversational English School Ministry for Internationals. Susan and her husband, Tommy, have three sons and two daughter-in-laws and grandchildren as well.
Dr. Jay Wolf has held the position of Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, Alabama since 1991. Prior to his post at FBC, Montgomery he was Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Alexandria , Virginia. Jay attended Baylor University and New Orleans Seminary. He’s received his doctorate from Southen Seminary in Kentucky. He currently serves as a Board of Trustee of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and the International Mission Board. He and his wife, Mary Ruth, have four children and grandchildren as well.
